Volunteering With Trinity
Operating a church takes considerable work. From caring for the grounds and facilities to producing Sunday Church Service to operating the ‘business’ of the church, it takes teams of people to perform the mission of the church. If you’ve maxed out on your financial ability to support Trinity, please consider volunteering for a duty or an event. You’ll feel spiritually rewarded and the church won’t have to outlay any cash to hire someone to do that job. It’s helpful for parish members to think in such terms as any task not handled by volunteers, requires the church to pay someone. Your donation of time matters so much. So please consider helping the mission of Trinity to serve God, and sign up to volunteer for a ‘task’. We can work around your schedule and welcome anything from a couple of hours per month to as much time as you want to give.
The following is an overview of volunteering opportunities at Trinity Church By-the-Sea. Use the form on the right to contact us regarding your volunteering intentions.
Occasional Tasks/Projects
Gardening/Cleaning – Do you enjoy gardening and to work outside? Perhaps cleaning is your special zen moment. Consider volunteering for our next Grounds Renovation & Cleanup Workday! Sign up using the form on the right and we’ll notify you by email when our next workday is scheduled. (Time Involvement: 1 day/year for about 5 hours)
Rummage Sale – If organizing and fundraising through rummage sales are of interest, we always need lots of help for two weeks prior to Easter, when our rummage sale is generally held. (More rummage sale info link) (Time involvement: 7 days per year in spring for 8 hours/day)
A Tasteful Benefit – If event organization is your thing, we need your help. Everything from arranging caterers, DJ’s, entertainment to working on silent auctions takes many hours every year. You could be part of the team that makes a big difference in the success of the event. (Time involvement: Over a period of two months, we meet for an hour/week and then do outside work of a few hours/week at your own schedule. On the day of the event, we work for about 2 hours in the morning setting up, then about 6 hours over the course of the event)
Special Events – From Lenten Soup Suppers to Special Brunches after Sunday Service, we occasionally need your time and help. (Time Involvement: 1-3 hours per occasion you volunteer for)
A Cup of Cold Water – Always needs regular help to stock inventory from donations, drive the van, serve and counsel the homeless. Can be emotionally difficult work, but it is exceptionally rewarding. (Time involvement: 3-4 hours for as many times/month you volunteer)
Regular Tasks & Jobs
Office Work – Love sending mass mailings or organizing files? Cleaning/organizing the office? Sending thank you notes or birthday/get well cards on behalf of the church? We need your help. (Time involvement: 2-3 hours per week)
Board Work – Are you a leader? A good follower? Someone who loves managing the ‘business aspect’? Then consider stepping up for a position on the Bishop’s Committee. From Warden to Finance Committee to Secretary to Worship Committee, we can always use help. You can be a member of the ‘board’ of Trinity or you can step in to volunteer to work on a committee. (Time involvement: Varies from 2-3 hours/month to multiple hours per week. No minimum time commitment required.)
Grounds and Facilities – While we have professionals that handle the tree trimming, gardening, plumbing, etc, there are always extra tasks that need special attention. Even if its just coordinating the work that is done, we could use help here. (Time involvement: 1-2 hours/month and upward, depending upon level of involvement)
Spiritual and Religious Lay Tasks and Jobs
Altar Guild – Want to learn more about the liturgical service and setting up the altar? Volunteer for altar guild. (Time involvement: 2-3 hours for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Book Pavilion – Organizing and distributing the hymnal, prayer book and bulletin takes time but is light work. Also involves storing them after Sunday Service. (Time involvement: 2-3 hours for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Chalice/Eucharistic Minister – If you hear the calling and wish to help celebrate the Eucharist, we can use more help in serving the chalice during Sunday service or possibly taking communion to the infirmed. (Time involvement: 1 hour for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month. One time class attendance for 2 hours required)
Choir – If you’ve been blessed with a good set of pipes, we’ve got the music chamber for you. (Time involvement: 2-3 hours/week)
Counter – Good with math? We need reliable people to help count the tithing and make bank deposits for the church (Time involvement: 1 hour for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Intercessor/Prayers of the People – Reading and leading the congregation in prayer for all in need or celebration of life requires someone with good reading skills and good enunciation. (Time involvement: 1 hour for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Juice/Refreshments – Do people call you the consummate host? We can use you to buy/bring juice and refreshments after the Sunday service. (Time involvement: 1 hours for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Pu – It takes a special talent to ‘blow the Pu’ to begin and end every Sunday service. If you’ve got the talent, we’ve got the need. (Time involvement: 2 hours for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Reader – Does the Bible speak to and through you? Nothing more powerful than reading the Word of God (Epistle) and leading the congregation in the Psalm. (Time involvement: 1 hours for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Set-up – Because we are an outdoor sanctuary, it takes more for us to set up and break down for Sunday services. Generally unlocking and carrying equipment/light furniture involved. (Time involvement: 2-3 hours for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Sound Technician – If you can work a mixing board and are technically inclined, we could use your help with the sound production of Sunday Services (Time involvement: 2-3 hours for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
Usher – Working the ‘back of the church’ is just as important as the altar on the front. Ushers make the service go smoothly and we always need more. (Time involvement: 2 hours for every Sunday you volunteer per month, 1-3 times per month)
